No, not all pre-1978 buildings have lead-based paint but most do. Where will you find Lead Paint?

The older the home or building, the more likely you will find lead paint somewhere:

  • 87% of Pre-1940 Homes have lead paint,
  • 69% of homes built from 1941 – 1959 have lead paint,
  • 24% of homes built from 1960 – 1977 have lead paint.
  • Estimates vary with 23 to 35 million housing units nationwide estimated to have at least one lead painted surface.
